Preface
This CD-ROM "Handboek Nederlandse Poststempels" can be used on your PC without installing any file or data. You only need to have Acrobat Reader 5 (Windows 95 en 98) or Acrobat Reader 6 (from Windows 98 SE) installed. In case this free program is not installed, you will find a reader version on this CD-ROM (see tab Acrobat). In case you have Windows 98SE or later, but Acrobat Reader 5 installed, it is recommended to install version 6 as there is a much better search engine in it.
This handbook consists of an Acrobat .PDF file (completely in Dutch), which can not be printed. Separate there is the price-list, which can be printed.
The scans of examples in the .PDF file are of very moderate quality. This has been done to make the file smaller which gives a much faster search result.
Most of the added pictures (not the postmark examples from the archives!) are added separate in better quality in .JPG format. You can reach them by clicking the tab "afbeelding". You also have the possibility to run a slide—show(runs only from CD-ROM!). The name of the .JPG file is the page number in the book where you will find the picture.
The menu-system has been developed by Escalona Computing in Huizen, Netherlands: http://www.escalona.nl
Those who are interested in a paper version of the book (perfect bound print version) can contact the publisher ( René Hillesum Filatelie )
Directions for use of the book:
On pages I = II in front of the book you will find the "inhoudsopgave" (table of contents). By clicking on the items, you will directly go to the right page.
In case you are looking for a certain place-name, the best way is to use the search engine of the Acrobat Reader.
This postmark handbook is clearly set-up in a different way as the usual postmark books. The reason is the way the information is sorted in the postmark archives. Therefore the separate postmark types are not automatically placed together. You really have to get used on it!
Numberingsystem:
The "Handboek Nederlandse Poststempels" has a unique numbering system, which is build-up with four letters. The first two indicates the postmark-type (e.g. KR = kleinrond) and letters three and four gives a closer determination (e.g. HK = hulpkantoor). This works out that KRHK is a kleinrondstempel hulpkantoor. After the letters there will be a four digit number and occasionally an addition as I or a.
This new and unique numbering-system will be used throughout all Dutch postmarks in the future. On this CD-ROM you will find the first two postmark types complete (KR: kleinrond and CA: caoutchouc-type) with umber and pricing (the pricing is of Mr. Peter Rozema). The use of the numbering-system can be done as "numbers according to HNP" or simply HNP-number.
Progress:
In the future this book will be added with newly drawn up inventories, complete with numbers and pricing. As far as known now, next inventory will be the "drukwerk rolstempel of 1912" (with the first numbering letters DW).
We have the intention of an open postmark handbook, and specialists on certain postmark types are kindly invited to share there information.
On the web-site http://www.poststempel.com there will be additional information, corrections, new pricing etc. You are kindly invited to take a look and to present your additions or corrections. On the web-site only clearly checkable information will be added, so please send at-once a scan to proof your addition or correction.
We wish you many ours of pleasure with this Handbook!
